. >> complete bay area news coverage starts right now. this is bay area news at 7:00. good evening. it's tuesday, november 13th. i'm gasia mikaelian, and this is bay area news at 7:00. police say the priceless art facts are missing tonight after a break in at the oakland muse sim of california. at our top story 7:00, jana is live at the museum and tells us one person was arrested but police do not consider it to be the main suspect. >> that's right, gasia. i spoke with museum staff, and they tell me that even though one person was arrested, they still have not recovered any of the items that were stolen from the museum. they do have surveillance video

and say it peer apierce that this crime was planned out in advance. staff were told to report to a meeth this morning where they learned about the theft. the director says someone broke into the history gallery about midnight setting off alarms. the museum has 24-hour security so the three guards on site called police. >> there was damage at the point of entry where the burglars entered and there were several artifacts taken from display cases and those cases were damages but luckily no one hurt. >> the director says police responded within three minutes but found no one. >> unfortunately it seems that these burglars knew what they were looking for, they had tiefd objects and came well prepared to they were in and out very quickly. >> museum staff are still trying to figure out how the burglars got in and the challenge is the size of the campus. it spans four city blocks, some areas only with low walls on the outside. >> the director wouldn't specify what was stolen but the history gallery includes valuable items from the gold rush era.

the museum does have nurns for the entire collection but says it isn't the monitoring amount of the stolen items but the value that's priceless. she was installing additional security cam ras this afternoon and the director says they were reevalweight their security system. >> we are looking to see what more we can do in the areas surrounding the museum. >> the museum director says they do plan to open the museum as usual tomorrow and she says they hope that they will recover those stolen items. reporting live in oakland tonight, ktvu channel 2 news. now, to san francisco where a jury today found a 33-year-old man guilty of a long list of kriems in a series of sexual assaults on women in the mission district. >> we the jury in the above-entitled action find the defendant frederick a. dozier, guilty. >> the jury convicted frederick dozier of the 25 of 26 counts

against him. three women were rob and had raped last year. prosecutors called the three victims heroes for their testimony. >> this was a case where it was a tragedy, actually three tragedies, but the communities came together in a way that often we do not see. >> dozier is expected to receive a life sentence when he returns to court december 14th. walnut creek police are asking for the public's help in tracking down two suspected kidnappers. officers provided us with this surveillance photo that shows one of the men at an atm last week. police say the victim was bound and gagged in the backseat next to a second suspect. the 57-year-old woman was kidnapped from the parking lot of a workplace and held for four hours. suspects used her atm card to withdraw money from several banks. police say the suspects are white men in their 20s and go by the names david and aubrey. continuing coverage now of that ruptured water main that sent mud cascading into a daly

city neighborhood. crews have been working all day long to clean up that neighborhood. these images taken from news chopper 2 late this afternoon show the streets mostly cleaned up. this is a far cry from earlier today when 45,000 gallons of water spilled sending a portion of the hillside down into neighboring streets. >> tens of thousands of gallons of water mixed with mud gushed down the hillside. >> the entire lawn was covered. there was, like, a stream going down the street. >> e manuel romero lives by the water tank where a pipe burst around 4:00 this morning. >> i got on my cell phone and called 911. >> 40 people who live in the row of homes that line hillside park on bonnie street had to be evacuated. >> this was just, like i said, an 8-inch cast iron pipe thad failed. there was a valve above the failure between the tank and where the rupture occurred where they were able to get that shut

off pretty quickly. >> neighbors stood in bewilderment when they saw mud had paralyzed at least a dozen cars parked. her daughter couldn't drive to work this morn sdmrg nobody can get out of the street. >> public works crews and neighbors spent most of the morning trying to dig these cars out of the mud with their shovels and bulldozers. >> the water was flowing so far. >> and while the city repaired the broken pierngs neighbors say they now have much bigger concerns. >> did you want it make you kind of worry it's unstable. >> i think so. >> luckily no one was hurt and no debris got into anyone's house. right now inspectors are trying to determine what caused the pipe to rupture. in daly city, ktvu channel 2 news. more de tails now on that cleanup effort that followed this morning's mud flow. city officials say that due to the nature of the mud it was really important to act fast. >> right now it's very very critical to get it washed down while you can say it's still

weeks. a proposal to raise for so-called super seniors at cal state schools is off the table for now. the board of trustees was set to vote on the plan this afternoon at a meeting in long beach, but it was removed from the agenda after student outcry and discussions with governor brown. the proposal is meant to open up space for incoming students by encouraging current students to graduate on time. the governor is set to attend tomorrow's university of california regions meeting in san francisco. the passing of governor's prop 30. as we reported last week for you, student protesters also plan to appear at that regents meeting. it's being held at uc's mission bay campus. at this hour the school district's governing board is meeting behind closed doors to discuss lawsuit ts brought by three women who claim it had district fail today act on reported allegations of sexual abuse by a teefrp. christian is one of the three women who filed the suit. she says she was abused while a student in the 1990s.

she's seeking unspecified damages. the suits filed by other former students ask for $15 million. police in richmond say they hope to make their city streets a little safer with new surveillance cameras. the business announced today four new cameras will be installed on 23rd street. two other cameras have been in place there for two months now and police say they've already seen a drop in loitering and drug sales. help police respond to criminal activity. chevron donated funds for the new cameras. new de tails tonight in our ktvu investigation of spending at the port of oakland. port officials tell us they will not pay severance to resigned executive director omar ben gentleman min. we learned that benjamin officially resigned on november 8th but the port did not make an official announcement last night four days later and then only after inquiries by ktvu sgluz i just think it show thas weren't being transparent. they felt they were above being able to be accountable to anybody, whether it was to us or even to the public as you can
